2021 Weddington boys soccer

MATTHEWS – The Weddington Warriors boys soccer team will play for a 3A state championship March 27 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary.

The Warriors enter the title game with a 15-1-1 record. They'll play the undefeated New Hanover Wildcats.

Weddington previously won a state title in 2015.

In the 2021 playoffs, Weddington (No. 3) defeated North Iredell 8-0 in the first round, Stuart Cramer 2-0 in the second round, Watauga 2-0 in the third round and Hickory 3-2 in the regional final.

Several other teams qualified for the playoffs.

In 2A, Forest Hills (No. 2) defeated Thomasville 5-0 in the first round and lost to Ledford 1-0 in the second round.

In 3A, Marvin Ridge (No. 9) defeated T.C. Roberson 3-2 in the first round and lost to Hickory 2-0 in the second round.

In 4A, Myers Park, South Mecklenburg, Providence and Butler each made the playoffs.

Myers Park (No. 1) defeated Panther Creek 3-0 in the first round, Lake Norman 3-0 in the second round, South Mecklenburg 3-0 in the third round and Northwest Guilford 1-0 in the regional final. They play for a state title March 27.

South Meck (No. 5) defeated East Forsyth 5-1 in the first round and Providence 2-0 in the second round before losing to Myers Park.

Providence (No. 13) defeated South Caldwell 3-1 in the first round before losing to South Meck.

Butler lost to Northwest Guilford 4-0 in the first round.
