Carolinas Medical Center – Pineville will host a blood drive for the Community Blood Center of the Carolinas. Donors must be at least 16 years old and weigh at least 120 pounds. People who donate blood through December will have their name added to a tag on stuffed animals that will be given to children at area hospitals. Appointments are not required, but people can register at www.carolinadonor.org.

Winter Break Fun Day, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Pineville Parks and Recreation will host a Winter Break Fun Day for kids ages 5 to 12 years old. Cost to attend is $20 for Pineville residents and $25 for nonresidents, and a pizza lunch and snack is included. Space is limited, so parents must register their children by Dec. 20 at the Belle Johnston Community
Center.

The American Legion meeting, 6 p.m.

Pineville Post 337 hosts its monthly meeting the first Tuesday of every month at The Hut with a dinner at 6 p.m. and meeting at 7 p.m. All area veterans are welcome to attend and learn what work the group does throughout the community and country. Call 704-543-2833 for more information.

Santa Claus at Carolina Place Mall

Area kids are invited to come and share their holiday wish lists and take photos with Santa Claus now through Dec. 24. Santa will be available Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and be available on Sundays from noon to 6 p.m.

On the weekends leading up to Christmas, Santa will be available for extended hours. On Dec. 21, a Saturday, he will be at the mall from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. On Dec. 22, a Sunday, he’ll appear from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Special hours also will be available on Dec. 23 and 24, with available hours from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Dec. 23 and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve.

Special times also have been allotted for pet photos with Santa, a pajama party with Santa and baby’s first Christmas opportunities. Check the mall’s website, www.carolinaplace.com, for more details on those events, other Santa appearance times or pricing for photo packages.

Photography and White House Exhibit

The President James K. Polk Historic Site is showing its Photography and White House Exhibit through Dec. 31. The exhibit focuses on the photography in the White House during Polk’s presidency, with Polk being among the first presidents to use photography to communicate with the American people. All exhibits at the Polk site are free to attend.
