Polk Historic Site celebrates beloved president’s birthday
The President James K. Polk State Historic Site recently held a celebration for its namesake’s
birthday.
On Nov. 2, the site brought back to life the Polk family of Mecklenburg County in November of 1795, when James K. Polk was born. The event featured costumed interpretations, open-hearth cooking, time period music, hands-on children’s games and cake to honor the president’s 218th birthday. About 570 people attended the celebration, a record for the
event.
The site is located at 12031 Lancaster Hwy.

Santa Claus comes to Carolina Place Mall
Area kids are invited to come and share their holiday wish lists and take photos with Santa Claus now through Dec. 24.
From now until Thanksgiving, Santa will be available at the mall from Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. After Thanksgiving, he will be available Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Santa will be available on Sundays from noon to 6 p.m. both before and after
Thanksgiving.
Santa will be available for extended hours on the weekends leading up to Christmas. On Dec. 7, 14 and 21, all Saturdays, he will be at the mall from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. On Dec. 8, 15 and 22, all Sundays, he’ll appear from 11 a.m. to 8
p.m.
Special hours also will be available on Dec. 23 and 24 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Dec. 23 and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
Special times also have been allotted for pet photos with Santa, a pajama party with Santa and baby’s first Christmas opportunities. Check the mall’s website, www.carolinaplace.com, for more details on those events, other Santa appearance times or pricing for photo
packages.
Santa will be located at the lower level, Dillard’s Court. Carolina Place Mall is located at 11025 Carolina Place
Pkwy.

Road work to take place through November
Several streets in Pineville have been scheduled for roadwork throughout
November.
Town staff encourages residents, commuters and business owners to take caution when driving the streets during repairs and to plan for some travel delays. Check the town’s website, www.townofpineville.com, to stay up-to-date on the work. Work already started on Rodney Street. Construction on Kenmore and Marine Drive should run Nov. 18 to 22, and improvements on Lee Street will take place Nov. 25 to 27, weather
permitting.
