Hanging of the Greens event, Christmas services and more at Harrison UMC
Harrison United Methodist Church will soon be getting into the Christmas spirit, and the church needs help with decorating for the holidays.
A Hanging of the Greens event is scheduled for Nov. 24, a Sunday, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. The event features “food, fellowship and fun,” according to the church’s newsletter, and volunteers can come for the entire time or drop in to help.
The church also needs donations of silver, gold and clear ornaments to spruce up its decoration supply. Email b_sissons@yahoo.com for more information on how to contribute.
Harrison will host several Christmas-related services next month. A Quiet Christmas, a service for those dealing with grief this holiday season, takes place Dec. 2, a Monday, at 7 p.m. The church also will host a live nativity on Dec. 15, a Sunday, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Christmas Eve candlelight services on Dec. 24, a Tuesday, at 2, 4, 7 and 11 p.m. The church’s children’s choir will present the musical “We 3 Spies” at 5:30 p.m. on Christmas
Eve.
Harrison’s mission team also needs donations for its rummage sale, scheduled for April 26, 2014. Donations of furniture, appliances, books, lamps, holiday decorations, gently used children’s clothing and more are requested. Adult clothing, shoes and mattresses will not be accepted.

Pineville churches host Thanksgiving dinner
Pineville and Harrison United Methodist churches are teaming up to host the annual International Community Thanksgiving Dinner on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28, a Thursday, at 5 p.m. at Pineville United Methodist Church. Reservations aren’t required to attend.
Individuals wishing to contribute a dish for the dinner can choose from mashed potatoes, green bean casseroles, turkey, ham, rolls, stuffing, cranberry sauce and pies. The churches prefer hams and turkeys that are fully cooked and carved. Email tim.webster@harrison umc.org for more information about the dinner or to learn how to volunteer.

Pineville UMC to host Night at the Dorchester
Volunteers from Pineville United Methodist Church will travel to the Dorchester Retirement Community on Wednesday, Nov. 20, from 7 to 8 p.m.
The church needs volunteers for this monthly event who can present programs such as radio shows, travelogues, music presentations and hymn singings. Anyone interested in volunteering should call the church office at 704-889-2022. Find more information at www.pinevilleumc.org.

JOY Thanksgiving meal, men’s event at Stough Memorial
Stough Memorial Baptist Church’s Just Older Youth, or JOY, group will host a free Thanksgiving meal on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 6 p.m. in the church fellowship hall.
JOY events are for anyone ages 55 and older. Email jjennings@mystough.org for more information.
The church also will host a Men’s Monday Night Football event on Dec. 9 for men ages 16 and older, as the Dallas Cowboys take on the Chicago Bears. The event will take place in the gathering center at 7:30 p.m., and those attending are asked to bring “man food,” according to a church newsletter. The Well hosts ‘Song Circle’ event
The Well Church & Coffeehouse will host its monthly Song Circle event on Nov. 26, a Tuesday, from 7 to 10 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.
Held the fourth Tuesday evening of each month, Song Circle gives local songwriters and musicians the chance to connect with each other “with an eye toward collaboration.” Song Circle isn’t a formal open mic event, but rather an informal gathering for music lovers to share their passion with others.
Original songs and cover tunes are welcome. Musicians wishing to perform a “sing-a-long” song are invited to bring 10 to 20 lyric sheets with chord notations.
