Letter to the Editor for Aug. 22

Dear Editor,

The Aug. 5 to 11 issue of South Charlotte Weekly featured the new building project at the intersection of Highway 51 and Johnston Road.

What used to be the Allen Tate building will now be a new Walgreens. It made me think about the building project right across the road, on the opposite corner, where it took five or six years to put up a new bank building.

Like many land development projects in Charlotte, the last thing considered by the builders and Charlotte Department of Transportation was the roads near the actual site. This intersection was widened but unfortunately the road directly adjacent to the bank is still in the same, sorry condition it’s been for many years.

I hope the developers of the Walgreens site will be held responsible for what happens to the street.  Elm Lane, on either side of Ballantyne Commons Parkway, is still in need of re-paving after more than 10 years of building projects adjacent to it.
