Charlotte Latin senior forward Rusty Reigel entered the Hawks’ Dec. 2 game against Forsyth Country Day needing two points to reach the 1,000-point milestone.
Reigel, the reigning South Charlotte Weekly Boys Basketball Player of the Year, didn’t stop with his first basket – as he poured in a season-high 40 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Hawks in an 86-76 loss.
“Rusty’s impact in the program has been immense over the last six years,” Latin coach Chris Berger said. “I am proud of the leader that he has become which will serve him well through life. He has worked extremely hard in the classroom and on the court because he understands that if you work hard, good things will happen.”
The Davidson commit pushed his season averages to 21.7 points and 9.3 rebounds with his huge performance.
