Local cheer, dance teams earn state titles

Charlotte Latin’s cheer squad

Three south Charlotte schools shined while competing in the inaugural N.C. Independent Schools Athletic -Association Invitational Cheer and Dance Championships in Fayetteville on Feb. 4.

Charlotte Latin walked away as the Varsity Dance champion. Providence Day won the Small Varsity Cheer title. Charlotte Christian won the Varsity Prep Cheer championship.

Also, Charlotte Latin was the second runner-up for the Grand Varsity Cheer championship.

Matthews’ Covenant Day was second runner-up in the Large Varsity Cheer championship, just behind Charlotte’s Hickory Grove Christian.

Bucs soccer perfect so far

The Charlotte Country Day girls soccer team posted their second win of the season on March 3, blanking Raleigh St. Mary’s, 4-0, to remain unbeaten in the 2012 campaign.

Yes I Can offers spring basketball

Online enrollment has begun for the Yes I Can Basketball spring youth leagues and training academies.

Separate leagues are offered for boys and girls in various age groups. The popular basketball league combines professional teaching, competitive games, clean and safe gyms, all in a positive atmosphere at an affordable rate.

The training academies are two hours of high-energy drills and teaching is designed for the player hungry to improve. Programs tip off on March 17.
