South Charlotte Blotter: Aug. 10

‘Serial bank robber’ behind bars

Police say they’ve arrested the “serial bank robber” responsible for a hold-up at a south Charlotte bank last week, and possibly three others in the area this year.

Anthony Watson was arrested and charged with robbing the BB&T branch at 1710 Sardis Road North on Friday, Aug. 3. He was arrested at a hotel on North Tryon Street.

On Friday, police say Watson entered the bank around 1 p.m. with a weapon and demanded money. No one was hurt in the incident.

Police believe Watson is the same man pictured in surveillance photos at bank robberies at the SunTrust Bank at 1935 Galleria Blvd. on June 11 and July 20 and at the BB&T at 2211 W. Arbors Drive on July 30.

Tips from the police department’s Crime Stoppers program led to the arrest, authorities say.
