Local nonprofit donates $100,000 to cancer center

Paula Takacs and her Paula Takacs Foundation for Sarcoma Research recently donated $100,000 to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

Takacs, a south Charlotte resident, was diagnosed with sarcoma seven years ago. There isn’t a specific treatment just for her type of cancer, as sarcoma patients have to take traditional cancer treatments and just hope they work. So Takacs started the foundation in hopes of raising awareness of the disease, and each year holds the Sarcoma Stomp in south Charlotte’s McAlpine Park. This year’s event saw more than 700 people take part, allowing the group to make the donation to the cancer center.
