Brandon Peterson, a ninth-grader at East Mecklenburg High School, was in serious condition as of Tuesday afternoon, June 5, after being hit by a car while walking on the sidewalk near campus.
Peterson was on the Monroe Road sidewalk when two cars collided, pushing one car onto the sidewalk where it struck him. He was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, where he remained as of Tuesday.
Police say Richard Cromwell was changing lanes Monday, June 4, when he struck a car driven by Ammar Sweet. Cromwell’s car then went up onto the sidewalk and hit Peterson. Speed and alcohol weren’t factors in the collision, police say, and as of Tuesday charges were pending.
Anyone with information on the case can call Detective R.C. Gormican at 704-432-2169.
