Sewer spills into McAlpine Creek twice

Two sewer spills last week reached south Charlotte’s McAlpine Creek.

An estimated 5,350 gallons of wastewater reached the creek March 13 near the 1800 block of Village Lake Drive. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities officials say kitchen grease and debris caused the blockage.

Crews responded to the scene within 50 minutes and started cleaning up. One dead fish was found in McAlpine Creek after the spill.

More than 2,500 gallons of wastewater spilled into McAlpine Creek on March 15 after a sewer overflow in the 9400 block of Hunting Court.

Officials say debris caused the blockage, resulting in 2,646 gallons of wastewater spilling. A crew arrived at the spill within 20 minutes, and no dead fish were found.
