Sewer spills into Four Mile, McMullen creeks

Two sewer spills recently reached south Charlotte creeks.

A grease blockage caused more than 4,000 gallons of wastewater to spill from the sewer Dec. 12 and into Four Mile Creek.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utility Department spokesperson Cam Coley said roughly 4,230 gallons of wastewater spilled in the 4900 block of Whitmore Pond Lane. Kitchen grease and debris caused the blockage. Crews got to the spill within 39 minutes. No dead fish were found.

Another spill Monday, Dec. 19, resulted in nearly 2,000 gallons of sewer waste reaching McMullen creek near the 1800 block of Cavendish Court. Tree roots and debris caused that spill.

Crews reached the spill within 22 minutes. No dead fish were found.
