Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities officials say a sewer backed up in the 7800 block of Rabbits Foot Lane on Sunday, March 20, spilling 2,000 gallons of wastewater into McMullen Creek.
Officials say a blockage of grease and tree roots caused the sewer overflow. Crews responded, cleaning the spill within 26 minutes. No dead fish were found.
Meanwhile, Utilities spokesman Cam Coley says a March 11 sewer spill in the 11400 block of Ardrey Crest Drive was caused by someone shoving sticks, plastics and garden tools in a drainage area. The act of vandalism resulted in 2,880 gallons of wastewater reaching Six Mile Creek.
