Charlotte prep helps local food pantries

Students at Charlotte Preparatory School recently donated more than 250 grocery bags filled with items for Loaves and Fishes.
Fourth-grade students at the school organized the drive that encouraged fellow students to bring in canned foods, juices, cereal, pasta and other items for Loaves and Fishes, a nonprofit emergency food pantry that provides a week’s worth of groceries to people in crisis in the Charlotte area. Last year, Loaves and Fishes served 114,177 people.
Items from Charlotte Preparatory School will be distributed to people in need at Mecklenburg County food pantries.

South Meck High hosts Santa Paws toy drive

The South Mecklenburg High School Humane Society Club is currently hosting its first holiday pet toy drive to benefit shelter animals in Charlotte.
The Santa Paws toy drive, which kicked off Friday, Dec. 7, will run through Wednesday, Dec. 19. People can donate new toys, pet store gift cards or monetary contributions to benefit the animals.
Collection bins are located in the school’s front office and in the media center, 8900 Park Road. Donations from students, community members and local businesses all are welcome.

Charlotte Christian to host annual live nativity

Charlotte Christian School sixth-grade students will perform the annual live nativity scene in front of the school Friday, Dec. 14, Monday, Dec. 17, and Tuesday, Dec. 18, from 7:15 to 7:45 a.m. each morning.
The live nativity has been a tradition at the school for more than 15 years and gives students the opportunity to share the Christmas spirit with traffic during the morning drive time.
The live nativity will take place between entrance B and C at the school and will feature the traditional manger scene. The school is located at 7301 Sardis Road.

Myers Park choir to host winter concert

The Myers Park High School choral department invites community members to attend the winter concert Wednesday, Dec. 19.
The event will feature seasonal music by the school’s choirs. The concert starts at 7 p.m., in the school’s auditorium. Admission is free.
The school’s choral board also will be selling reusable Mustang grocery totes, $3 each or $10 for four totes, as part of a fundraiser for the choral department.
The school is located at 2400 Colony Road.

PSAT/PLAN Parent Night coming to South Meck

South Mecklenburg High School will host a PSAT/PLAN Parent Night on Monday, Dec. 17.
A representative from Princeton Review will speak at the event. Parents will learn how to interpret PSAT/PLAN scores, differences between the SAT and ACT tests and will share test-taking strategies.
The event will run from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the school’s media center and is open to all 10th- and 11th-grade students and their parents. South Mecklenburg High School is located at 8900 Park Road.
