Covenant Day receives grant for new sustainable initiative

Covenant Day School Bible teacher Clifford Chin recently received a grant for “The Green Fish” program he is implementing at the school.

The $2,000 grant will support the utilization of aquaponics technology at the school to respond to growing hunger needs in the community and abroad in Haiti.

The school has participated in six mission trips to Haiti since 2007 where students and faculty visited orphanages, painted murals, built computer labs and hosted camps.

The grant will provide Covenant Day with resources needed for the aquaponics system that will grow fish and vegetables in a symbiotic system Chin hopes will create a sustainable way to help feed orphans in Haiti.

The grant is sponsored by ING Unsung Heroes, which recognizes the nation’s most innovative educators across the United States. Chin and Covenant Day were one of 100 winners.
