A Child’s Place needs school supplies

A Child’s Place of Charlotte, an organization dedicated to working to erase the impact of homelessness on children and their education, needs donations of school supplies for homeless children in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.

In June, CMS reported 4,922 homeless students enrolled in the school system, up 4.5 percent from last year’s estimate, according to a news release. Many of those families depend on A Child’s Place to provide new school clothes, supplies, snacks, hygiene products and more.

This year, the organization is asking the community for help. They need schools supplies such as pens, pencils, crayons, notebooks, binders and folders to prepare students for the start of school in late August. The organization also is accepting clothes, such as pants and long-sleeve shirts to be used as school uniforms, and book bags for elementary and middle school students.

Donations can be dropped off at A Child’s Place, 601 E. Fifth St. Suite 230, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Visit the organization’s website, www.achildsplace.org, to view the complete list of needed school supplies or visit the wish list registry through Walmart.com and Target.com. People also can call 704-343-3790 to learn more or to make a donation.
