Local schools earn money for thinking green

Two south Charlotte schools were recognized by Harris Teeter in the company’s Together in Education “We Think GREEN” contest.

As part of the project, students from all over the East Coast collected 8,100 bins of more than 7.3 million plastic bags, earning cash for their schools. Both Quail Hollow and Randolph IB middle schools in south Charlotte received $250 as winning schools in the Harris Teeter Southern Region.

The contest was open to all Together in Education schools, and encouraged children and their families to recycle plastic shopping bags. The program ran from Feb. 1 to March 27, and the top five schools that collected the most bags from each Harris Teeter region earned money.
