Local independent students named National Merit Scholars

Several students from south Charlotte’s independent schools are part of the second group of winners for this year’s National Merit Scholarships and were awarded the National Merit $2,500 scholarship.

The students were chosen from more than 15,000 finalists in the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Program and were judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills and potential for success in rigorous college studies.

The following students are National Merit Scholars:
William Almquist, Charlotte Latin School
Emma Gardner, Charlotte Country Day School
Patrick Hahn, Charlotte Catholic High School
Velina Kozareva, North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics
Christopher Munley, Providence Day School
Emily Anne Stewart, Providence Day School
Yue Zheng, North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics
