South Mecklenburg High School students Danielle Staub and Geri Soll recently created a program to address specific needs of the school’s student population in terms of school supplies.

Known as “Sabres Share Because We Care,” the girls researched demographics at the school and developed a survey for teachers, where they determined many students come to school daily without necessary school supplies.

The program was developed through the school’s Family, Career and Community Leaders of America chapter. The school was able to clean out and move a large, locking storage container to the Student Services Department. With the help of FCCLA funds and community and school donations, the cabinet was filled with more than 500 items. Corporate sponsors also donated supplies and gift cards, which were used to purchase additional items.

Geri and Danielle will present this project at the state FCCLA competition March 27.
