Bone marrow drive to honor local student

People can honor the life of Sloan Chambers, a south Charlotte student who died last September from mast cell leukemia, by donating bone marrow.

The First Annual Sloan Chambers’ Bone Marrow Drive is March 31, a Saturday, from noon to 3 p.m. at Providence Outreach Center, 1073 Providence Road. People between the ages of 18 and 60 are invited to show support and help save lives by donating bone marrow. The process is quick, painless and only requires a cheek swab.

Sloan, an eighth-grader at Alexander Graham Middle School, died Sept. 26, even after efforts were made to find a suitable bone marrow donor.

People who are unable to give bone marrow can still help the cause by donating money in Sloan’s memory. Go to www.bethematchfoundation.org/goto/SloanChambers to donate.
