Charlotte Latin teacher wins science grant

Tom Dubick, a middle school engineering teacher at Charlotte Latin School, is the Charlotte-area winner in Time Warner Cable’s national Super Connector Search.

The program rewards individuals who help connect young people to fields like science, technology, engineering and math.

Dubick is the program director for Fly to Learn, a program that promotes science education through computers and flight simulation software.  Students use science and math to design, build, fly and evaluate virtual airplanes.

Time Warner Cable will donate $5,000 to expand Fly to Learn, and Dubick will star in a public serve announcement to spread awareness about science education.

The local winners’ announcements will be featured online from Monday, Nov. 28, to Dec. 11, and the entry with the most votes will earn an additional $10,000.  Find more information and vote at the event website, www.-connectamillionminds.com.
