Garden opens Fields A-Flutter

The Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden will open its annual butterfly exhibit, Fields A-Flutter, on Friday.

The event gives people a chance to learn about and get close to butterflies, especially those native to the North Carolina Piedmont.

There will be special areas to observebutterflies emerging from chrysalides, and the Caterpillar Crib will help people study the life cycle of butterflies up close. The Crib includes host plants and nectar plans and will be the temporary home for many butterflies.

During the exhibit, from Friday, Aug. 3, and each Saturday and Sunday to Sept. 9, garden staff and volunteers will be on hand to help people understand butterflies and show them ways to attract the insects to their own gardens.

Admittance to the program is free with garden admission, which is $12 for adults, $11 for seniors and $6 for children ages 4 to 12. Those 4 and younger get in free.

Find more information at the garden’s website, www.dsbg.org. The garden is located at 6500 S. New Hope Road in Belmont.
