New show ready to open at Ciel 

The Ciel Gallery is getting ready for Articulate: The Artist’s Voice.

The international exhibit will celebrate excellence in contemporary mosaic art, according to a gallery news release, juried by mosaicist Sonia King. The show will feature works by award-winning artists in stone, glass, metal and corrugated cardboard. The exhibit opens Sept. 1, with a reception with the artists on Sept. 7 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the gallery, 128 E. Park Ave.

Documentary opens in south Charlotte

The documentary “Bill W.,” account the co-founder of the Alcoholics Anonymous program, opens Friday night at Park Terrace Stadium 6.

The film follows the story of Bill Wilson, who helped start the program which now helps more than 2 million men and women. It opens Friday, Aug. 24, at the theater, 4289 Park Road. Call the theater at 704-523-9771 for more information and times.

 

‘New Horizons: Upcycling’ opens Friday

Contemporary, conceptual artist Edwin Gil will unveil his new series “New Horizons: Upcycling,” at his gallery Friday.

The series uses old window glass and turns the pieces into larger-than-life works of art. The works will depict famous Charlotte residents and other important historical figures. The exhibit opens Friday, Aug. 24, at 6 p.m. at the Gil Gallery, 109 W. Morehead St.

‘Pride and Patriotism’ opens soon

A new exhibit will tie in with the Democratic National Convention soon at the Charlotte Fine Art Gallery.

The gallery, “Pride and Patriotism: American Expressions,” will display local artists’ interpretations of American pride and patriotism. All works on display will be available for purchase.  There’s a reception for the show on Sept. 7 from 6 to 9 p.m.

Sip & Stroll tickets on sale

People can start getting their tickets for the upcoming Sip & Stroll event.

Local art will be displayed at the EpiCentre from more than 30 local artists, and there will be interactive wine and art classes throughout the day Sept. 14 and 15 as well as children’s activities. Tickets to the event are $20 each for either day.

Museum, mall team up 

The Mint Museum and Neiman Marcus at SouthPark Mall are teaming up for Art Of Fashion Fete.

The event is an evening of beauty tips from experts, music, exclusive discounts and more, including a fall trends runway presentation. Tickets for the presentation are $50, with all proceeds benefiting the museum’s annual fund.

Home Show starts Friday

The Southern Ideal Home Show kicks off Friday, Aug. 24, at the Park Expo.

The show will include ideas and vendors focused on home building, interior designs and more. New to this year’s show is IDEAL Brews & Brats.  Visitors will have a chance to sample craft beers and bratwurst from the state’s craft brewers and local farmers.
