Children’s Theatre camps near

The first Children’s Theatre of Charlotte camp opens July 16 for rising eighth-graders to 12th-graders.

The first camp, July 16 to 20 from 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., is Play Festival. The camp lets teens see what it’s like to take a one-act play from the page to the stage in just one week.

That’s followed by Actor’s Academy, from July 30 to Aug. 3. The intensive-training experiences focuses on character and scene work. Teens will use a variety of acting methods and advanced material to develop their skills.

The final camp is Musical Theatre, also from July 30 to Aug. 3. There, teens will rehearse scenes, songs and choreography from some of Broadway’s best musicals while they develop and refine their skills.

Both Play Festival and Actor’s Academy are being held at Spirit Square. Musical Theatre is at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Camps are $275 per week. Some scholarships are available.
