J.D. Goodrum Company, based in Cornelius, announced last week it had broken ground on Charlotte’s Romare Bearden Park.

The park will be located on 5 acres at 300 Church St. in uptown Charlotte. It will have two lawns capable of hosting events; the Childhood Muse Plaza, featuring an interactive fountain and public art; multiple gathering spaces; and gardens.

Romare Bearden, a renowned artist, was born in Charlotte in 1912. The city recently celebrated his career with a number of events. The park in his honor should be completed next year.
