Vance marketing students win honors
Vance High School senior LaNesha Wright and junior John Palumbo each won first-place trophies at the 2007 North Carolina DECA Career Development Conference earlier this month. Wright also was selected as a national finalist for the Harry Applegate DECA Scholarship.

Thirty-eight Vance marketing students joined 2,000 others from across the state at the Greensboro conference. The chapter earned its eighth consecutive gold-level Chapter of Distinction Award, the highest honor for a state DECA chapter.

At UNC Charlotte, Vance marketing teams also won second and third place at an entrepreneurship competition, a program to encourage entrepreneurship among area high school students.

Meredith Dillon, Dipali Kanani, Chris Morgan and Morgan Thompson took second-place honors for a no-fume household cleaning solution. Thamon Barbee, Krysten McGough, Beatrice Reynolds and Toni Sussman came in third place for their electronic implant device.

Elizabeth Traditional Elementary partners in dental screening clinic
In an effort to offer free oral health education and dental screenings to 100 million children in the United States by 2010, Colgate-Palmolive Company has dedicated a new mobile dental van.

In the Charlotte area, partnering with Family Dollar and the Mecklenburg County Health Department, the van was scheduled to make its first stop Thursday, March 29, at the Elizabeth Traditional Elementary School. The program featured music, costumed characters and a game show dental challenge co-hosted by Steve Smith, the Carolina Panthers All-Pro wide receiver.

Charlotte Country Day hosting French ambassador
Jean-David Levitte, French ambassador to the United States, will meet with Charlotte Country Day School students in grades 10-12 on Tuesday, April 3, at 10 a.m. Advanced French and modern European history classes will meet with Levitte to discuss French and U.S. relations. All third-graders will sing two songs in French, including the French national anthem.
