Kindergarten goes global

Q: Why do you see so many dragons in China?
A: Dragons bring good luck.
Q: Why are birthday candles so significant in Germany? A: Germany was the first place where people made wishes and blew out candles.

Three transitional kindergarten classes at Providence Day School were transformed Friday, Feb. 9, to represent the culture, customs, traditions and people of Kenya, Germany and China. The TK classes spent the past three weeks learning about the countries. “We choose Kenya, Germany and China because they are located on different continents,” said teacher Candy Field, adding that the global project helped to teach that children around the world share similarities. At far right, Spencer Woods shares a bit of Chinese tea traditions with classmates and visitors. Below, Kailey Smith donned homemade “lederhosen” and oversaw a table of German dolls, toys and games.
