Do you have a favorite teacher who deserves to be recognized? Stop by any Charlotte area Wal-Mart or Sam’s Club location through Friday, Feb. 23, to submit a nomination for the company’s annual Teacher of the Year program. Outstanding educators are eligible for a $1,000 grant for their school and other prizes.

Through this year’s program, more than 4,000 teachers nationwide will be recognized, and the Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club Foundation will donate approximately $5 million for three types of awards. Local Teacher of the Year honorees receive $1,000 for their schools, a $100 gift card to buy supplies for their classrooms, an honorary Teacher of the Year shirt and a personalized certificate. State winners, selected by members of the Phi Delta Kappa international educational fraternity, receive $10,000 for their schools, business cards, a State Teacher of the Year certificate and a one-year membership to Phi Delta Kappa. All state winners are automatically entered into the national competition.
